Pera Company’s Turkish Textiles: A Journey of Love and Friendship

Pera Company’s journey began in friendship with deep connections to home. Six years ago, my dear friend Madeleine and I went on a trip to my breathtaking homeland, Turkey. While there, we visited local artisans and weavers and fell in love with their stories and their sustainable, hand-crafted textiles.

After returning to our respective homes — Madeleine to South Africa and me to my home of 20 years in the United States — we knew we had to carry the beauty and traditions of Turkish textiles with us. And, we had an urgency to share them with the world. So, Madeleine opened a shop in South Africa and, a year later, I opened my boutique, Pera Company, in Key West, Florida.

Over the years, I have cherished cultivating relationships with the artisan families. When I return to Turkey, we sit over a meal — and sip Turkish tea, of course! We discuss our families and our hopes and dreams. We are family, and I am proud to share their carefully crafted textiles with the world.

Though I now find myself feeling at home on the beautiful island of Key West, I will always feel love for the deep roots of home. Each product I source from my homeland brings the two together.

We’d love to meet you — please visit our beautiful shop in gorgeous Key West!
